Summary:
The Commercial Risk Manager will assist in analysis and underwriting of commercial loans to current and potential business members according to all credit union policies and procedures and Federal and State rules and regulations.
This role is responsible for identifying and analyzing relevant information to assess credit risk, establish viability of sources of repayment, and determine appropriate loan structures.
Responsibilities also include evaluating the value or strength of the collateral.
This role could also perform annual business loan reviews and support management of the commercial loan portfolio to identify and minimize risk to the credit union.
This role must provide quality and timely member service with timely turnaround on decisions.
This position is part of the late Friday and Saturday managerial rotation schedules.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Assist in the analysis of business loan applications in relation to business financial statements, analyzing tax returns, preparation, and analysis of traditional and global cash flows, determining the appropriate risk rating, and determining the appropriate loan structure.
Identification of any trends in relation to liquidity, leverage, profitability, and industry; collateral evaluation and management evaluation.
Assist in the preparation of credit presentations and annual reviews in a timely fashion.
Pull credit reports for accounts as needed, verify debt, estimate monthly payments for any outstanding debts not listed and add them to debts on application.
May order environmentals, appraisals, flood certifications, UCC lien searches and other follow-up as requested by the Commercial Analytics Manager.
Calculate debt-to-income, debt service and global debt service ratios in addition to liquidity, solvency, and profitability ratios on loan applicants, determine collateral value.
Prepare spreadsheets detailing all ratio and trend findings.
Assist in the implementation of a Loan Originating System.
Ensure that sound analysis and lending procedures are followed.
Act in compliance with the credit union's Business Lending policy at all times.
Will answer routine to complex business loan matter related questions.
Professionally resolve complaints from members and nonmembers.
Implement new loan products and services in accordance with management direction.
Review the recommendation of Credit Union Business Group (CUBG) or Credit Union Strategic Services (CUSS) and based on the analysis, recommend approval or denial to management or the Business Loan Committee along with appropriate terms and conditions.
To work in conjunction with the Commercial Analytics Manager, CUBG and CUSS in submitting applications for underwriting, document preparation and reviewing potential loan participation opportunities offered by CUBG, CUSS or other Lead Lenders.
Ensure all post-closing documentation for participation loans has been collected and follow up to ensure that all contingencies and review requirements are being met.
Assist in Loan Review/Quality Control.
To work in conjunction with brokers to obtain full application packet and financials in order to decision on a timely basis.
To work in conjunction with the closing attorney, appraiser, environmental agency, and all vendors to ensure an efficient and timely loan process.
Preparing reports for management about the status of current loans and potential risks associated with outstanding loans or new requests for financing.
Present analysis or address questions during credit request discussions or committee presentations, as requested.
Assure the highest standards for member satisfaction through the timely resolution of member service issues, complaints, and problems.
Ensure compliance with internal business loan policies and procedures.
Ensure adherence to the regulations/guidelines from external regulatory and legislative agencies.
Create processes/procedures and make recommendations for improving efficiencies.
Assist with training of new business lending staff.
Work toward optimizing the Member Experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Possess thorough knowledge of Credit Union Business Lending Policies, Procedures and Products.
Must be able to interpret business financial statements and create spreadsheets in Excel.
Deep understanding of how a credit union functions, and the value it brings to its member's and community.
This includes an understanding of what a Cooperative is, as that is the business models of all credit unions.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and generate grammatically correct written reports, letters, memorandums, etc.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills and be able to establish working relationships and interact effectively with a wide range of individuals, members, and vendors.
Solid organizational, management and team-building skills.
Demonstrated ability negotiating complex agreements to achieve the best outcome for the organization.
Experienced in engaging, collaborating, and building trust amongst internal, external, and prospective members.
Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism when dealing with sensitive credit union issues.
Ability to work closely with a variety of personalities and maintain calm under pressure.
Discreet, able to handle confidential and proprietary information appropriately.
High level of integrity.
Self-motivated, confident and ability to multitask effectively.
Ability to problem solve and provide solutions to staff and members.

Qualifications:
Associates degree or higher preferred with understanding of accounting.
2-5 years of financial services experience required.
Credit Union or Bank preferred.
2
years of commercial underwriting experience required.
Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Bondable upon initial employment and continue to be bondable throughout term of employment.
Physical Requirements:
The functions of the position usually performed sitting but may require some amount of time standing.
Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required.
Tasks involving working on a computer keyboard, typewriter, calculator, cutting, labeling, and taping involve extensive wrist and hand movements.
All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.
